INDICATION

For the immunization of infants, children and adults of all ages For the people at greater risk at work eg. gardeners, athletes, farmers, laboratory staff etc. For women of childbearing age and pregnant women to prevent neonatal tetanus.

DOSE

In Children

Primary immunization schedule for children under 7 years of age should consist of five doses of tetanus toxoid containing vaccine

Schedule Tetanus Vaccine Frequency
Primary Course in Childhood 3 doses of the vaccine in the 6th, 10th and 14th week after birth (TT containing vaccine)
Fourth Dose (TT containing vaccine) 3 years after the primary vaccination. If Pertussis component is contraindicated
Fifth Dose (TT containing vaccine) Given to the children aged between13 to 18 years as booster
In Adults

The general vaccination for adults is as follows:

Schedule Tetanus Vaccine Frequency
Initial course* 3 doses of tetanus toxoid or tetanus toxoid containing vaccine each one month apart
Fourth Dose 10 years after the initial course
Fifth Dose 10 years after fourth dose
(*For those who were never immunized against tetanus during childhood).
In pregnancy

First dose at the confirmation of pregnancy Second dose after four weeks of the first dose of tetanus toxoid vaccine.

COMPOSITION

  • Each dose of 0.5 ml contains:
  • Tetanus Toxoid ≥ 5 Lf (≥ 40 IU)
  • Adsorbed on Aluminium Phosphate, Al+++ ≤ 1.25 mg
  • Preservative: 0.005% Thiomersal
